Description

For club players, plastic chess pieces are often the norm and luxury is absent from their playing fields. These chess figures make a great compromise between elegance and budget constraints. The design is held in the popular Staunton design, which is the set to be used in chess tournaments.

All pieces are handcrafted from boxwood with the black ones being ebonised which gives them the posh look of ebony wood without the hefty price tag attached to them. The pieces are polished by hand to a very high standard to give them their shiny looks

Given the inexpensive price of this set, the knight shows a remarkable array of details, like eyeballs, ears, a half-open mouth and nostrils. Clearly a superior choice over cheap featureless plastic pieces.

The king measures 3.875" in height and has a weight of 56g. With a base diameter of 1.5", a chess board with a field size of 2.0" / 50mm would suit these figures.

These figures are a great choice if you are heading out to buy your first set of wooden quality chess pieces. It is a rather tall set of chess figures and its value for money aspect is outstanding. Since all pieces are made from solid wood, this set will last for many years and tournaments to come.

Also available in sheesham wood.
